The CRJ100 was created by stretching the CL-600 design 5.92 metres (19 feet 5 inches) and adding fuselage plugs fore and aft of the wing, two more emergency exit doors, and a strengthened and redesigned wing. The maximum load was 52 passengers, with 50 passengers typically seated. The CRJ100 included GE CF34-3A1 turbofans with 41.0 kN (4,180 kgp / 9,220 lbf), Collins ProLine 4 avionics, Collins weather radar, larger wings with expanded span, more fuel capacity, and upgraded landing gear to handle the heavier weights. It was followed by the CRJ100 LR subvariant, which had 40% greater range than the basic CRJ100, and the CRJ100 ER subvariant, which had 20% more range. To better serve corporate and executive operators, the CRJ 100 SE sub-variant was developed.
